Why can't we have the 32 best teams in the world at the World Cup?
World Cup is just a couple of months away and there are already numerous predictions made. Though there are many teams who can make their statement, only a few teams can realistically win the World Cup. 31 teams have earned their right to play the World Cup by getting through the qualifiers over a period of three long years. 6 confederations make way for 31 teams according to the number of slots allotted to them. But the problem with it is that there are many teams with much more potential who haven't qualified than some of the teams that have. Teams like Italy, Netherlands from Europe would certainly have made more of a fist of it than qualified teams like Panama and Australia. The real losers are confederations like CONMEBOL , which arguably is the toughest qualifying group in the world. South America have 10 genuinely strong nations but they are only given four and a half spots . So in any case 2 or 3 very good teams are going to miss the bus anyways. The exactly opposite scenar...
